Bridging Borders: Shared HRM Challenges in Tourism

Virtual Guest Lecture on Challenges and Trends in Human Resources Management at Van Lang University, Vietnam
27/02/2025
Recently, Prof. Dr. Celine Chang delivered a virtual guest lecture at Van Lang University in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, focusing on the topic "Challenges and Trends in Human Resources Management Using the Case of Germany." The session was attended by master's students from the Master’s programs in Hotel Management and Travel Management.
During the exchange, it was fascinating to discover that the tourism industry in Vietnam faces similar challenges to those in Germany, particularly in terms of skilled labor shortages. Many professionals in the tourism sector, both in Vietnam and Germany, transitioned to other industries during the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting a common challenge in how Human Resources Management (HRM) needs to adapt and respond to changes in labor markets.
The lecture was organized by Dr. Van Thi Nguyen, Dean of the Faculty of Tourism. Dr. Nguyen was a Fellow at Hochschule München during the summer semester of 2016, and thought several classes at our department.
We look forward to further fostering this international academic collaboration and sharing insights across borders.
